I'm a curator at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington,
D.C.  Two of my colleagues and I are planning to develop a popular
culture collection of artifacts (toys, games, comics, advertising
art, etc) that relates to aviation and space flight.  Does anyone
have any suggestions on where to begin?  Is there any scholarship on
the subject that proposes methodologies for collecting, naming, and
classifying objects or anything written that would help us make in-
formed decisions?  I'm familiar with the Bowling Green State Univ.
Popular Press publications on popular culture and the work of
Thomas Inge and others, but I'm more interested in journal liter-
ature or monographs that deal specifically with museum popular culture
collecting and collecting practices.
