Cultural Resource Management Program, University of Victoria

Providing a safe and secure environment for collections is a
fundamental curatorial role of the museum. You will explore the
principles and techniques of preventive care for artifacts in metal,
ceramics, wood, bone, leather, and other materials, with emphasis on:
-  principles of preventive conservation
-  establishing conservation policies
-  uses and classifications of artifacts
-  roles of various professionals collections care
-  physical factors in the preservation/deterioration of artifacts
-  environmental monitoring; materials analysis; condition reporting
-  preventive care techniques in handling, packing, display, transportation
-  ethical, economic, cultural issues
Dates: February 19–28

Instructor: Mary Lou Florian is a Conservation Scientist and
Conservator Emeritus of the Royal British Columbia Museum
Fee: $589 (credit or non-credit, Canadian funds)
Travel: Victoria is easily accessible by air or ferry from both
Vancouver and Seattle
