In my class with Ralph Appelbaum it was obvious that he was successful in
part because museums need an intermediary between themselves and their
architects (not to mention the unions) who understands exhibition design
as well as architecture. The most crucial factor in planning work space
is the inclusion of staff in the planning process from day one, and that
includes the cleaning crew, guards and receptionist.

Has anyone heard news, good or bad, about the design of the American
Center in Paris, other than it's empty and broke?

And, on another note: The N-Y Historical Society has a new executive
director, Betsy Gotbaum, the former Parks Commissioner. She hopes to
"make the place buzz, make it alive, make it terrific."

Go Betsy!
