We are pleased to be offering an eight-day immersion
course on 'Information Management in Heritage Organizations'
for museum and heritage professionals, from January 18-27
through the Cultural Resource Management Program at the
University of Victoria. The course has the following
description and outline:
 
 
ooo  Information Management in Heritage Organizations
Museums and other heritage organizations hold a wealth
of fascinating information that gives meaning to collections,
programs and management activities. This course explores
the central role and benefits of effective, integrated
information management, and helps you analyze your
needs and develop computer-based management and
communications systems that will serve your institution
in the future. Topics include:
o information as a heritage resource
o analyzing information management objectives and
needs in a variety of areas, including collections
documentation, research, programming,
financial and human resource management, marketing,
and membership and volunteer coordination;
o steps involved in planning and designing integrated
computer systems
o resources and networks to support information management
o information management trends and developing technologies
o ethical and management issues
 
Dates: January 18-27
Early Registration Deadline: January 3
Instructor: James Blackaby, a collections and information systems
consultant, based in Washington, D.C., has extensive experience in the
design and development of information systems for museums across the
continent.
Fee: $582.20 (Canadian Funds)
