Kathy:

Hands down the most unusual exhibit I have come across this year dealt with
treppanation (sp?); or, the ritual/medical/spiritual practice of cutting holes
in strategic points in the skull, to let out evil sprits, illness, or pressure
on the brain. It is a somewhat common practice in several places on the globe,
and resurfaced very briefly during the 60's as a recreational (!) activity
amongst dedicated drug culture aficionados. At any rate, it was up at the Museum
of Man in San Diego (or was it their Museum of natural History?) and explicated
basically through skull reproductions/specimens and rather graphic photos. It
was intriguing, but I almost retched a few times.:)

Anyone else catch this one?
