I'm looking for something different in visitor counters too.  We're
retrofitting
an existing gallery and don't have the room for a standard IR beam counter.
I'm
particularly curious about a battery operated IR detector  Carson Electronics
(http://www.valemount.com/acarson/index.html) advertises as a "trail counter."

Sounds no less accurate than a beam counter and is certainly considerably less
intrusive.  Battery advertised as a 10-year life.  Anyone out there tried it
indoors?
