A major military installation is located near our museum, so we get a LOT of
single men, or small groups of men looking for a pleasant afternoon. Our
museum also places special emphasis on the Susquehanna & Tidewater Canal,
and that seems to be more interesting to men too. So, after family groups,
school groups and homeschoolers, single males and male only groups are our
next largest visitor groups.

Subject: Re: WOMEN on walk-in tours

Dear List Members:

I'm curious about your experiences.. At all the museums I've worked at
(all in AUSTRALIA) I can only think of one instance where a solitary
MAN came for a 'walk-in' or unreserved tour. MEN come in pairs or
groups, but hardly ever alone. WOMEN, however, come in regularly by
themselves, which can pose an interesting problem as a great deal of
museum staffers are MEN. I can pose some possible reasons for this,
but I was wondering if all of you have had the same experiences or
whether a study has been done about single FEMALE v. single MALE
visitation.

Just curious!
