Well, I was an undergraduate at St. Mary's College of Maryland, which has
since become more affiliated with its intimate geographic neighbor, Historic
St. Mary's City. I was in the Anthropology program and was able to do a huge
amount of fieldwork (archaeological) at St. Mary's City in the early 90's,
the same time they did the big "Lead Coffin" project. This was a very
beneficial arrangement, well for me at least, and I understand that they have
become even more intimate in the past decade.

I currently teach as an adjunct to Philadelphia University, formerly the
Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science. This is a much different
situation, as it is in a major city, Philadelphia (St. Mary's city is
beautifully rural) where there are many competing cultural institutions. At
Philadelphia University they have a design center that is part of the
university, but heavily used by textile professionals. (The Palely Design
Center).

I think these are two very different examples of a cultural center oriented
with a university.

Hope this is of some help.

Matt
