In the past we have rented refrigerated trucks/trailers for large early American furniture or large quantities of furniture. They are very simple to operate. We use Ryder truck rentals as they are the only ones who rent reefer trucks/trailers in the Indianapolis area. They are always clean and Ryder is always willing to work with us in the rental fee and charges. We can do a freeze in a 10 ft truck for $500.00. I highly recommend doing this in winter if you can put it off that long, that way the truck does not have to run as much and it helps hold down costs. What I like about the truck is it is on site, we don't have to haul objects across town. Our Ryder will drop off and pick up the truck at no cost as well!

For smaller items we purchased a 14 ft. cubic chest freezer from Lowe's Home Improvement store. It has become invaluable as we use it to freeze anything that comes in which appears to be infested. We put textiles in it a lot, and have even gotten a rocking churn and a victorian table into it (on separate occassions of course).

When and if we ever get to expand our offices and conservation lab I am going to bat to get a walk in freezer for us. That way we can do large furniture without having to get a truck or wait until we have enough large pieces to justify renting a truck.

I am putting together an Integrated Pest Management policy for my internship, which focuses on the freezing of artifacts for deinfestation. I am looking for any suggestions as to the kind of (either on-site or off-site) storage facility requirements that would be able to hold items in quarantine.
