We take it as axiomatic that, since there was no year zero, and the birth of
Christ was a point in time, the present calendar has 1 A.D. for the year
following Christ's birth, and 1 B.C. for the year before he was born. Thus
the first century must be 1-100, the second century 101-200, the seventeenth
century 1601-1700, and the twentieth century 1901-2000.

It is clear, therefore, that the millennium should be celebrated on the 1st
January 2001.

Thanks, John.
