Definitions are tricky. In some of the suggestions, as an exercise, I substituted University or Sports stadium and found much of the definition held true. The question is do you want the definition to be distinctive or as a catch all?
Important, as a lot of, if not most, ICOM policies are inclusive and the definition should reflect that. To pare down or to accrete- seems like a crossroads.
A web group could fulfill most of the aspects of the definition. They collect ,research, display, etc. For example - music memorabilia collectors may find that the web site has a museum function with the objects not in permanent institutions but locally accessible with a community or people's heritage emphasis.
Do we include or exclude such groups with the extant or proposed definitions?
