Nobody is happier to see ICOM-L in active use than I am. The
purpose of this list is, however, (as apparently needs to be
stated every now and again) not to provide a forum for the
discussion of topics of general interest relating to museums.
MUSEUM-L serves that purpose admirably and deserves the full
support of the community. Matters specifically about the
maintenance of museum web sites are dealt with on MUSWEB-L.

ICOM-L is dedicated to the discussion of the activities of the
International Council of Museums. ICOM's corporate stance on
politically significant issues is most decidedly a suitable topic
for discussion here, as would anything else be that is clearly
related to the organization's societal role or any of its other
concerns. Communications about the myriad additional issues
relevant to museums but lacking a specific "ICOM spin" should be
forwarded to MUSEUM-L.
