ICOM-CC 14th Triennial Meeting

The Hague 12 – 16 September 2005

‘Our Cultural Past – Your Future!’

The Fourteenth Triennial Meeting of ICOM’s Committee for Conservation,

ICOM-CC, will be held in The Hague in the Netherlands from 12-16 September

2005. The main subject will be the exploration and design of different

strategies and methods aimed at involving the public in issues surrounding

Cultural Heritage and its preservation.

We are glad to inform you about the programme for the plenary sessions, the

excursions on Wednesday afternoon and the post-conference tours.

‘Involvement of Society in Conservation of Cultural Heritage’ is the theme

of the Monday plenary sessions. We found, among others, Professor Amareswar

Galla and dr. Mohammed Touré prepared to speak. They will approach the

theme from an economical, a political and a historical point of view. After

that, Prof. dr. Frans Grijzenhout and Liesbeth Helmus will focus on some

Dutch cases. Special attention is being paid to the profession and how it

can adapt to the modern climate by becoming more transparant and receptive,

and on the other hand, how the public can be made to understand the

reasoning behind conservation methods.

Wednesday morning is reserved for the Museum Forum on Museum Risk

Management. In the afternoon one can choose from 27 excursions to various

locations in and around The Hague. They all are devoted to conservation and

restoration and specially arranged for participants of the congress.

The Working Groups of ICOM-CC play an important role at the 14th Triennial

Meeting. They meet several times during the congress and all have their own

programme, to be announced later. The papers are published in a two-volume

set including CD-ROM, which you will receive before the congress.

For detailed information we advise you to look at the website:

www.icom-cc2005.org. You can register for the congress and the various

programmes. This is easily done by filling in the registration form on our

website, under the heading ‘registration and fees’. This page also contains

information on grants and student discounts and offers you the possibility

to book hotelrooms and airline tickets.

The 14th Triennial Meeting is being organized by the Netherlands Institute

for Cultural Heritage (ICN) in cooperation with ICOM, ICOM-CC,

ICOM-Netherlands, the Netherlands Museum Association, the Dutch association

of professional conservators and restores (VeRes) and the Municipality of

The Hague. The Congress and Studycentre VNG is taking care of the

logistical management.
