AFRICOM RECRUITMENT

In October 1999, AFRICOM, the International Council of African
Museums, a new continental organisation of museums in Africa,
will be set up as a NGO.

AFRICOM will have the following mission and objectives:

Mission

1.  AFRICOM seeks the development of African societies in the
respect of their environment, their identities and values.

2 The mission of AFRICOM shall be to develop museum policies and
networking on a continental and regional level, focusing on the
cohesion of cultures beyond geographical and linguistic barriers.

Objectives

1.  Promote the development of museums and museum-related
institutions in Africa in the context of global development;

2.  Promote the development of professions on which museum
activities are built;

3.  Strengthen the collaboration and co-operation among museums
and museum professionals in Africa, and develop exchanges with
museum professionals abroad;

4.  Promote the participation of all components of the society in
the protection and enhancement of cultural and natural heritage;

5.  Establish and maintain an effective autonomous institution to
achieve these objectives.

AFRICOM requires a Director.  She/he should have experience at
international level in:

*  Management
*  Project coordination
*  Cultural heritage
*  Fund raising

And should be bilingual in English and French.  A third language
(Portuguese, Arabic, Spanish) would be an asset.

The future headquarters of the Organisation, where the
secretariat will be based, will be located in one of the three
countries which have applied to host AFRICOM:  Kenya, Nigeria or
Seychelles.  (Nationals from the host country may have to
withdraw once the choice has been made.)

Minimum net salary will be 20,000 US$ / year, housing will be
provided.

September 20, 1999 at the latest at the following address
