This debate on the role and functions of university museums is most
worthwhile, and interesting. As the problem of committee formation relates
to ICOM however, this only points to the need to radically overhall ICOM's
committee system. The ICOM committee system, as presently constituted,
does not reflect the reality of a networked world, nor that of an
increasingly multi-tasked and fluid museum profession. And as has been
pointed out by Patrick Boylan and Per Rekdal , it's not very democratic
either.
I would suggest that we not lose sight of the triennial goal to review in
depth the mandate, administrative structure and communications facilities
of ICOM, and look forward to some serious reform.

of forms, or an expression of an experience such that it is capable of
evoking delight or emotion or shock."
