Dear Mr. Edson,
I'm very happy to read your message about the additional membership cards
for big institutional members.
In fact, in Italy, we have a lot of problems about institutional members.
As you know, the Italian museums are usually little museums, and the ICOM
fees are so much expensive that it often happens that the employees prefer
to pay the subscriptions as individual members. Moreover, the institutional
membership cards are not nominative, and, sometimes, this is a problem for
the ticket offices of the museums.
In conclusion, as Secretary of ICOM Italia, I think that it would be better
to reform on the whole the institutional membership rules.
Probably one possibility is to pay less the institutional membership fees
and to pay a fee for every single membership card request, with no limits,
with the name of the employer authorized to use it.
And this should be made, in my opinion, for both little and big museums.

Yours sincerely
Luca Baldin
ICOM Italia Secretary
