Estimado Jacques Perot:
Considero que la discusion sobre la definicion de la
institucion museo debe contemplar las siguientes
premisas:
1. Que es una institucion eminentemente educativa y un
producto de la creacion cultural de la comunidad.
2. Que la educacion que propone debe responder a las
necesidades e intereses de su comunidad creadora en
primer instancia.
3. Que sus objetivos son la investigacion, proteccion,
conservacion, restauracion y difusion del patrimonio
cultural y natural de la comunidad a que pertenece.
4. Que debe tener como mision "concientizar
conciencias", desde el punto de vista de la educacion
popular, a partir de un proceso integral de
investigacion participativa.
5. Que debe contribuir en los procesos de
tranformacion  social para la dignificacion de la
cultura de los pueblos.
6. Que debe ser parte integral del desarrollo
sustentable de la sociedad.
7. Que constituye una relacion dialectica entre
territorio, patrimonio y comunidad.
8. Que representa un campo experimental de permanente
innovacion en materia de conservacion y exhibicion del
patrimonio cultural de los pueblos.
9. Que debe mantener por siempre su condición de "no
lucrativa" pero al servicio del desrrollo material y
espiritual de los pueblos.
10. Que la institucion museo es parte integrante de la
politica cultural, artistica y ambiental de los
gobiernos modernos y democraticos con apertura a la
iniciativa privada y a la sociedad civil en su
conjunto.
