Dear colleagues,

Members of ICOM-Kenya National Committee have been following events of the
aftermath of the massive earthquake in Asia with horror and disbelief. It is
really very sad that nature can visit such untold destruction on society, so
unexpectedly and so mercilessly.

Without any doubt, such massive destruction visited on a cultural/natural
landscape must have an untold destruction on both cultural and natural
heritage. As members of ICOM, and as members of the museum fraternity, it is
our responsibility to seriously analyse the extend of loss to society in
general and to heritage in particular, and to pool our efforts to alleviate the
suffering and the loss.

We are together with our President Alissandra Cummins, and with all of you in
grief, and would like to assure you that we are willing to give all possible
assistance in developing and implementing plans to make a positive difference
to the affected peoples.
