Dear Colleagues,

The next annual meeting of ICTOP will be held in New Delhi, India, by
invitation of the National Museum Institute of India, with the support of
the ICOM National Committee for India (INC-ICOM) and the ICOM Asia-Pacific
Regional Organisation (ASPAC).

All ICOM colleagues, and ICTOP members old or new in particular, are
warmly invited to attend and contribute.

A brief summary and the Call for Papers is given below, but for full
details please go to the First Circular, which is now on the ICTOP Web

OFFERS OF PAPERS ARE INVITED IN RESPECT OF THE FOLLOWING PROPOSED THEMES:

Theme 1.    Professional education and training for museum professionals
in the Asia-Pacific Region

Sub-themes:

---     reports on different aspects of museum training and professional
education in India - both general over-views, and on the different
university and other museum training and professional education programmes

---     information reports on training issues, courses etc. within the
rest of the Asia-Pacific region

Theme 2.   Museum professional education and training in relation to
globalisation, and to the needs of museums in respect of sustainable
development:

Sub-themes could include:

---     Relevance and development of training curricula
---     Employment and future prospects
---     Applied employment skills in multicultural societies
---     Digital technologies and museums training
---     Commercialisation of museum and heritage services

Preliminary offers of papers should be submitted as soon as possible, and
certainly no later than 31 May 2002 (see Planning Timetable below).

The programme will also include a full day excursion to Agra for the Taj
Mahal, and to Fatepur Sikri - both Moghul Period World Heritage Sites,
and local visits and excursions within Delhi, including a "Son et
Lumiere" show at the Red Fort.

PLANNING TIMETABLE FOR PARTICIPANTS:

31 MAY: DEADLINE FOR OFFERS OF PAPERS.

These should be no more than one page (International A4 or American Letter
size), and should include (1) details of author(s) and institutional
affiliation(s)(2) contact details (mailing address, plus fax number and
e-mail - if available), (3) title of proposed paper, (4) Theme and
sub-theme proposed (see above), and (5) short Abstract of the proposed
paper (about 250 words).

All offers of papers should be sent by e-mail, fax or airmail, to both
Patrick Boylan Chairperson of ICTOP, and Local Organising Committee
representative and ICTOP Board Member Prof. A.K. Das (see below).

1 JULY: ICTOP Board and Local Organising Committee to select papers from
the Abstracts and agree draft programme

By 15 JULY: Those offering papers to be notified of the decision on their
proposal. Draft Programme also to be mailed out with definitive Booking
Form (following up provisional notification form to go out this month with
the Call for Papers).

15 OCTOBER: Deadline for receipt of full texts of accepted papers, and for
Booking Forms at the "Early Bird" registration, services and meals fee of
$100. (Later registrations and payments will be $180.)
