Dear Colleagues,

I would like to add my voice to the many that have rightfully condemned the
very barbaric way in which the Guatemala Colonial Art Museum was raided and
the security officer guarding that heritage, Mr. Jorge Luis Moran Santiso,
killed.

This unbelievable act where human life and human heritage is taken away for
the satisfaction of some selfish and greedy individuals needs to be
condemned by all.

I would like to send my condolences to the entire Guatemala Heritage
Fraternity. We would like to assure Mr. Betancourt, the Director of the
Museum, that we share in the sadness and we are with you in solidarity. Some
of us will continue to write more on the same to sensitise our communities
on the fallacy of looting or associating with the few greedy people who care
less about human life or heritage.

We want to assure you of our support during this trying time and we together
will continue to fight, in every part of the world, this abominable disease
of looting and illicit trafficking of cultural heritage.

Dr. George Abungu
Chairman, Kenya Cultural Centre
Chairman, International Standing Committee on the Traffic in Illicit
Antiquities
CEO, Okello Abungu Heritage Consultants
