FIHRM 2017

Museums, Democracy and Human Rights
Challenges and dilemmas in storytelling

28-30 November 2017
Rosario, Argentina

CALL FOR PAPERS

We would hereby like to invite you to participate in our annual conference, which will take place at the Museum for International Democracy in Rosario, Argentina.

Museums dealing with human rights are increasingly prominent around the world. How do these museums capture the interest of the public? What can they do to ensure the younger generations understand the extent of what has happened, and the consequences in today's society? The aim is not only to talk of the past and its legacy, but also the political and social circumstances that have brought about the very creation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
There are many different types of museums dealing with difficult subjects, but the ethos underpinning them all, regardless of size or resource, is the drive to combat injustice and promote human rights. The key challenge is identify the best approaches to effectively tell and pass on these stories and to have an active voice in promoting rights and equality.
