ICOM Barbados and the International Institute for the Inclusive Museum welcome you to the 5th International Conference on the Inclusive Museum: http://onmuseums.com/conference-2012/

It will be held from the 2nd to the 5th of August, 2012 at The University of The West Indies, Cave Hill Campus in Bridgetown, Barbados. The emerging focus, but not the only one, of the Inclusive Museum Knowledge Community for this year's conference is promotion of research and safeguarding of Diaspora heritage & cultural diversity.

In-depth museum study visits are combined with the 2012 Crop Over Festival. For Barbadians and visitors who have joined in the summer festival known as Crop Over, there is nothing to compare with the experiences. Alissandra Cummins, Kevin Farmer and Roslyn Russell (eds.) Plantation to Nation: Caribbean Museums and National Identity, Chicago & Melbourne: Onmuseums Series, Common Ground Publishing, 2012; 4. Rick West Jr., Shifting the Paradigm: The Making of the National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian Institution, Chicago & Melbourne: Onmuseums Series, Common Ground Publishing, 2012; 5. David A. Bailey, Alissandra Cummins, Axel Lapp, and Allison Thompson (eds.), Curating in the Caribbean, Berlin, Germany: The Green Box, 2012. The Inclusive Museum Conference is held annually in different locations around the world. The inaugural Conference was held at the National Museum of Ethnology, Leiden, the Netherlands in 2008, the Second International Conference on the Inclusive Museum was held at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia in 2009, the 2010 Conference was held at Yildiz Technical University in Istanbul, Turkey, and the 2011 Conference was held at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.


We look forward to hosting you for another stimulating and case study driven conference along with a fun filled festival in 2012 in Bridgetown.
