Ultimately, students must place themselves. The most successful members
of my graduating class (able to find museum jobs in a short time) were
those who applied as broadly as possible (national search, large and
small communities). The biggest problem with small town museums is that
often, they do not have the funds to pay us enough to make our student
loan payments. Museums with large staffs are also more likely to have
open entry level positions for recent graduates.
