Hi. This fall, I will again be working with special education teachers to
help them to use museums with their students. Many of these teachers work
with severly learning disabled children...some who are also multiply
handicapped. Other teachers work with students who are autistic or
emotionally disturbed. (Most of the kids are in elementary school.)
I have some ideas for projects and ways to use museums with these kids.
Can anyone suggest pre-visit activities that they might do to help prepare
their students for a museum trip? Also, can anyone suggest ways in which
they have worked with these populations in museums? Are there any
curriculum materials available? Books specifically relating to working
with special ed kids in museums? Resources you think might be helpful to
give teachers and paras?
Your help is most appreciated,
Laura Dickstein
