The Museum of Northern Arizona offers the Year 2000 Museum Collections
Internships

Description:
Founded in 1928,  the Museum of Northern Arizona is one of the few
institutions in the Southwest to combine a public education and exhibit
program with a research center.  The institution is known worldwide for
its exploration of the natural and cultural history of the region.  The
Museum offers summer intern positions for upper level undergraduate or
graduate students interested in gaining experience related to museum
collections care and management.  These assistantship are cosponsored y
the BF Foundation of Santa Fe,  New Mexico.

Collections Summer Interns work closely with Museum collections staff
and are involved in hands-on projects in all aspects of collections
management.  Activities may include the preparation,  cataloging,
conservation, or documentation of anthropology, biology, fine arts,
geology, photo archives or library collections.  Interns will visit
other museums in the northern Arizona area and take part in weekly
discussions of current topics related to collections management.
Students in Museum Studies programs are encouraged to apply.

Summer Collections Internships are for a 10-week period beginning in
late May.  A living allowance of $225 per week will be given,  and the
Museum provides on-campus housing in cabins,  a communal kitchen/lounge,

modern restroom/shower facilities,  and an on-site laundry. Interns must

supply there own transportation,  as well as food and personal items
such as clothing, cameras, personal computers,  etc.

To apply please provide the following:
1) Name
 Address
 Day-time phone number
 E-mail address
 Date of birth
 Name of college or university
 Major Year (sophomore,  senior,  graduate,  etc.)
 Degrees completed and year
 Area of academic major or interest,  such as Anthropology or Natural
Science

2)   Copy of college or university transcripts (unofficial is okay)

3)   Prepare a typewritten statement (one page length maximum)
addressing why you wish to be a collections intern and what you hope to
gain for the experience.

Application Deadline is April 3,  2000.  Application must be received by

this date for consideration.
