I would like to second the points made concerning MS-Access. It's a
powerful database program that's easily learned because it's within the MS
family. The program can do just about anything imaginable for your
collections management, reservations, mailing lists, research, etc.
purposes. If you decide to use this program, you can interface easily
between MS-Excel, MS-Word, and easily save anything as html if desired.
If possible, I suggest taking a short "intro" class on the program. I did
that - it was offered through the local university (2-day workshop). My
father also took a class (in California) offered through the local adult
education program. Neither course costed much at all and we both found it
immensely helpful.
