GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Responsible to the Director of Professional Support Services,
for the operation of the Interpretation and Exhibits Branch,
which provides planning, interpretive product development,
outreach support and programming, training and guidance in
the development of park interpretive programs and technical
assistance primarily to the 122 state parks and historic sites
and to other division programs as requested. Supervises
professional staff of 13 or more employees. Responsibilities
include, but are not limited to: financial management/budget
planning, human resources, strategic planning for future
interpretive needs, providing leadership to interpretive
planning for individual park and historic sites, overseeing
the preparation of branch interpretive planning and
implementation activities and maintenance of branch
equipment. The Director of Interpretation and Exhibits will
also be responsible for special projects as assigned by the
Director of Professional Support services.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Forty hours per week includes a flexible schedule with hours
other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and weekends and holidays
as needed; (2) Travel required as indicated by program needs;
(3) Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work
rules, and safety standards; (4) Participation in the related
professional organizations is expected; (5) May be required to
work overtime as necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: (1) Graduation from an accredited college or university
with a Bachelor's Degree in one of the following: Parks & Recreation,
Wildlife/Fisheries Science, Biology, Environmental Studies,
Natural Resource Conservation, Museum Studies, Anthropology,
Archeology, History, American Studies or closely related field;
(2) A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in
the disciplines listed above may be substituted for one year of
experience as listed in the experience section below.
Experience: (1) Six years management experiences in a leadership
position in the field such as park and/or historic site interpretation,
museum administration or natural and/or cultural resources management;
(2) Experience in administrative procedures, human relations,
and planning. Experience may have occurred concurrently.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: (1) Knowledge of interpretive
programming and planning; (2) Ability to plan, develop and direct
educational/interpretive outreach programs; (3) Ability to train,
motivate, schedule and manage interpretive staff; (4) Ability to
oversee the production of interpretive materials and programming;
(5) Ability to work collaboratively with other organizations units
and constituent groups and professional associates; (7) Knowledge
of administration; (8) Skill in supervision and training of personnel
and organizing/scheduling work; (9) Knowledge of budget preparation
and management; (10) Ability to plan strategically for future needs;
(11) Skill in the application of word processing, spreadsheet and
communication applications on a personal computer; (12)Ability
to perform a leadership role; (13) Ability to work effectively
within a team and/or group concept.
Additional Requirements: A copy of official college transcripts required
with application.
