                             POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
            SENIOR DEVELOPMENT OFFICER/ANNUAL FUND


POSITION SUMMARY:  The Senior Development Officer/Annual Fund is
responsible for the successful development and management of the
Academy's Annual Fund Campaign.  Reporting to the Director of
Development, the incumbent works with key volunteers and staff
to identify, evaluate, cultivate, and solicit Annual Fund gifts.

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
-    Develop and manage strategies to secure gifts from
     individuals primarily for general operations
-    Identify, contact, and cultivate prospects through personal
     visits, special events and tours
-    Manage and direct the activities of volunteer solicitors and
     affinity groups
-    Write solicitation letters, oversee production, and track
     results for Annual Fund
-    Manage giving circles, design club identities, benefits,
     acknowledgements and provide gift stewardship
-    Create effective upgrade mechanisms to promote higher levels
     of Annual giving
-    Write and supervise production of direct mail solicitations
     and other Annual Fund materials
-    Assist in the identification and cultivation and
     solicitation of planned gifts
-    Supervise the Stewardship Officer and Development Assistant
     positions
-    Develop and maintain budgets for Annual Fund programs
-    Solicit donations for special projects
-    Follow all Academy safety regulations
-    Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-    Bachelor's degree or related experience
-    Minimum of three to five (3 - 5) years increasingly
     responsible fund-raising
-    Previous supervisory experience
-    Able to work evenings and weekends
-    Sensitivity to confidential information

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
-    Excellent oral and written communication skills
-    Computer word processing (MS Word) and database experience
     (Raisers Edge) required
-    Able to work well with staff, volunteers, and the public
-    Able to work as a team member
-    Knowledge of current trends and effective strategies for
     Annual Fund Campaigns
-    Familiarity with natural history and science education
     preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS:
-    Able to sit for eight (8) hours per day
-    Able to perform repetitive motions thirty percent (30%) of
     the time
