Lu,
I am currently the Digital Imaging Project Manager at the Smith College
Museum of Art. We received a grant from the college to fund the
digitization of 5,000 images in the course of a year and a half. Since I
am dedicated solely to the project, I supervise a contract photographer,
log in all slides and transparencies into our collections management
database (Multi-MIMSY 2000)and work with a scanning vendor. In less than a
year we have scanned over 5,400 images! We have a hi-res archival scan
(tiff) as well as several derivative images (jpegs)for each object. The
project took a while to get off the ground but once we had established a
routine we scanned 200 images per week. If you would like to discuss this
off-list, please contact me.
Good luck!
Stefne Lynch
