The Arikara Indians, a plains village indian nation living along the Missouri
river, were famous for their pumpkins which they grew and dried and used in
soup.  They were doing this for hundreds of years in Kansas, South Dakota and
then in the 1800 in North Dakota.  These excellent gardners also grew mellons,
squash, and eight varieties of corn.
