I feel compelled to put my 2 cents in.
Far more space was taken up by people saying "don't do that" than by the
original listing.
I joined this list because I want to keep up with trends and developing
information in the field.
I thought it might be helpful in finding a job (although so far nothing in
my field/geographic location), but that was not my primary reason.
As a job seeker who has spent the last 2 years after getting my MA in Museum
Studies volunteering and filling one brief contract position, I have no
objection to people posting a "help me I need work" statement. If I had any
expectation that that sort of thing would work, I would put my resume up
here at least once per quarter regardless of the hate-mail responses.
This is a forum for discussing trends in museums, and one of them is
obviously that in such an open general market, this field is still a tight
job market. Let people post what they want regarding museums. If their
plea for employment just takes up your space, delete it and move on. Don't
take up the space of others yelling at them.
Vincent Lyon

p.s. If any of you DO know of an opening in Silicon Valley / San
Francisco....
:-)
