The South Carolina State Park Service is currently accepting applications
for an interpreter at Hampton Plantation State Historic Site, a national
historic landmark.  Constructed in the mid-Eighteenth century, Hampton was a
profitable rice plantation on the Santee River in the South Carolina low
country.  Interpretation focuses on the mansion's architectural history and
residents, African American history, and rice cultivation.  The 322-acre
plantation also includes former rice fields, a ca. 1930s garden, historic
kitchen building, cemetery, and numerous archeological sites.

Job Purpose: To research, develop, and present interpretive programs
focusing on the history of the site. The interpreter also assists in the
preservation of a historic mansion, outbuildings, grounds, and landscape.

Qualifications: Must possess a Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Excellent proven communications skills are required. Applicant must be able
to plan, coordinate and conduct historical programs.  Historic site
interpretation experience and knowledge of current preservation philosophies
and practices desired.

Salary: $20,839. Housing and all state benefits included.  Position will
close July 2nd.

Basic Duties:
1) Plans, promotes and conducts house tours, educational programs, and
special events for park visitors.
2) Conducts research on the historical, cultural, and natural resources of
the site to support interpretation and resource management.
3) Serves as curator of an 18th century house, outbuildings, and grounds.
Monitors environmental conditions, develops preservation plans, and assists
with maintenance activities.
4) Promotes the site through personal contact, oral, and written
communications, including regular press releases, off-park presentations,
newspaper articles and other media appearances.
5) Recruits and trains temporary/part-time interpreter, docents, volunteers,
and interns.
6) Assists with park administrative and operational functions.
