Ladies and gentlements, dear collegues,

a new service is brought to you as part of WWW Virtual Library Museums pages, maintained by Jonathan Bowen and supported by ICOM. Virtual Library Museums / Germany attempts to put together museum related information in Germany and to give an overview of the museums in germany. A search engine which is provided by WebMuseen, gives further details for more than 8500 museums in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

http://www.icom.org/vlmp/germany.html
http://www.stadt-hagen.de/stadt-hagen/kultur/museen/hco/museen1.htm (In English)
http://www.stadt-hagen.de/stadt-hagen/kultur/museen/hco/museen.htm (In German)
(a French and Italian version will be followed in the next weeks)

The main homepage is structured in different areas, each of which is hosted by different administrators. The Virtual Library Museums / Germany is hosted and co-ordinated by Ralf Blank (Historisches Centrum Hagen). It is part of the Virtual library Museums pages (VLmp) that are hosted and co-ordinated by Jonathan Brown (University of Reading), and which are administered with considerable assistance of the International Council of Museums (ICOM).

The VLmp offer the greatest and most important global list of museums available on the Internet. Since 1994 the main site of VLmp has been able to count more than 3 millions of visitors, with 3,000 'virtual visitors' daily. The VLmp's homepage has recently been put onto the main server of the ICOM in Stockholm, Sweden.

Best regards

Team of VL Museen Germany
