I do a great deal of photography of stamps and other two
dimensional objects. One reference which I've found helpful
is COPY AND DUPLICATING Photographic and Digital Imaging
Techniques by Young, Benson, Eaton and Meehan.
1984. Revised 1996. An Eastman Kodak Book.

Though I do photograph three dimensional artifacts, it is
far less frequently. I have no reference for that type of
photgraphy.
