At the 1997 annual meeting of the International Council of Museums (ICOM)
International Committee for Documentation (CIDOC) in Nuremberg, Germany, the
CIDOC Multimedia Working Group (MMWG)discussed the characteristics that make
good museum multimedia. These characteristics were expressed in a series of
questions that could be asked during the evaluation of a museum multimedia
product, such as an information kiosk, CD-ROM or Web site. The
questionnaire is in draft format but would provide a useful basis upon which
to structure an evaluation of your gallery's multimedia products. I am
unaware of any developments following the draft questionnaire, but perhaps
you could contact Jennifer Trant, the Chair of the MMWG. I believe she is a
member of Museum-L. The draft is available on the Web at
