VISUAL RESOURCES ASSISTANT
(Assistant Museum Scientist)

Duties: Assists in the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the
collection (filling and repair of existing slides; accessioning, mounting,
cataloguing, classification of new slides). Helps in
re-classification and re-organization of sections of collection. Trains
and supervises student workers in mounting, repairing, labeling, filing.
Assists users in finishing slides, tracking orders, and general inquiries.
Monitors circulation of slides. Processes work orders.  Enters catalogue
records into database, supervises scanning projects, and monitors other
computerized bookkeeping records.

Minimum Requirements: Background demonstrating work experience in a
library, research or collection setting; understanding of slide
cataloguing principles; and, knowledge of classification systems and tools
(e.g. LC Subject Headings, Call numbering systems, the AAT) and art
historical reference sources. Degree in Library Science, Information
Management/Science or equivalent combination of education and work
experience. Degree in Art History or substantial course work in Art
History.

Desirable: Experience working in a slide collection or other image
archive; knowledge of image scanning and digital image manipulation;
aptitude with computerized cataloguing and databases;
reading knowledge of at least one foreign language; and, supervisory or
training experience.
