Chief Preparator of Packing and Storage
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art
Kansas City, Missouri

This position is responsible for the supervision, design, and execution of
the Museum's packing and crating requirements for loans and traveling
exhibitions. Organizes and manages collections storage housed within the
Museum and at an off-site facility, total capacity comprising more than
25,000 square feet. Prepares and manages an annual budget; supervises two
full-time departmental staff, as well as project-related staff,
participates in collections division policy and procedural meetings;
participates in preparation of grant proposals and the creation of project
budgets. Works closely with registration, conservation, and installation
departments in supervising the safe handling of objects inside and outside
the Museum and in overseeing inventory maintenance policies.

Qualified candidate must have five years of art handling and storage
management experience in an art museum, preferably in a supervisory role.
Prefer a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree or a degree in art history or other
related field. Must be able to work with a variety of people in a courteous
manner. Must be safety conscious, possess good mechanical and manual
dexterity, good organizational skills, and computer literacy in word
processing and inventory control. Must be able to manage competing
priorities.
