Curator of Collections/Registrar

The Museum of the South Dakota State Historical Society seeks an
enthusiastic individual with excellent organizational skills to care for
and manage its 26,000 object collection located in the 63,000 sq. ft.
Cultural Heritage Center in Pierre.  Responsibilities include: all aspects
of collections management including registration, cataloging, and
preventive conservation; supervision of support staff  and volunteers;
oversight of collection management software, SNAP! for Windows;
participation as a team member in exhibit development; interaction with
donors and researchers; handling reproduction requests for images from the
collection; and ensuring compliance with NAGPRA and other state and federal
laws governing museum collections.

BA in museum studies, history, anthropology, or related field required; MA
with curatorial or registrarial experience preferred.  Candidate must be
detail-oriented and possess excellent writing and organizational skills.
The starting salary is $22,880 with limited benefits.  Finalists will be
asked to submit a writing sample.
