Ana,
Is the Guggenheim Bilbao a State museum? Is the Thyssen? What about the
Fundaciones? I would argue that although you are right that the majority of
museums ARE State owned, there are several privately run cultural institutions
throughout Iberia and there are possibilities outside State institutions. And
with the trend of the PP to privatize State operations, especially with the
new paradigm of the Guggenheim in Bilbao (which has surpassed all expected
numbers, including corporate sponsorship), it is possible that the situation
change in the future. One can only hope, anyway. The cultural institutions
such as the Prado need more consistency in their direction and less political
appointees who change at the whim of the party in power. Wouldn't you agree?
