SEARCH REOPENED 6/99:

The American Museum of Natural History in New York City is seeking, a
Supervisor for the Earth and Space Explainer Programn, a new position
beginning July 1999.   A major job responsibility is to plan and implement
a new Explainer Program for the Rose Center for Earth and Space, including
the Hayden Planetarium, opening in early 2000.  Explainers describe
specimens, interpret exhibits, and highlight research themes for visitors
in the Museum.  The Supervisor recruits, interviews, trains, tests,
schedules and evaluates this large group of adult volunteers.  The position
of Supervisor also includes additional office responsibilities and
occasional weekend hours.

A general science background, with strong specific knowledge of astronomy
and earth science is required, with an interest in how these subjects are
presented to Museum visitors (B.S. required, Masters degree preferred).
The candidate must have the ability to teach astronomy and earth science to
adults and must be able to write training materials.  The ideal person will
have proven organizational skills and the ability to manage people of all
ages.  It is highly desirable that the candidate has museum and volunteer
management experience.
