To all,
I presently have a website at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, which is
organized around the idea of an excessive museum registrar's report - with
affectionate humor, of course! I thought Museum-L'ers might appreciate it more
than others! <A HREF="http://www.moma.org/exhibitions/muse/">The Registration
of an Artwork</A>
As a part of the site, there is an area for ANY artist of ANY kind to have two
webpages to exhibit their work. A meritocratic MoMA first!! It's free, easy
for any web-familiar artist to set up, and encouraged! So anyone here who is
an artist (or who knows one!) can enter an artwork and up to10 links...
For this "Artworks" section, there is an announcement below...
Thanks and feel free to participate...
Thanks,
Allan McCollum

INVITATION:
***************************************
YOU ARE INVITED TO PUT UP A WEBPAGE
ON THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART'S WEBSITE
***************************************
PLEASE SUBMIT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE -
PAGES WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR A LIMITED
TIME PERIOD ONLY.
***************************************
New York artist Allan McCollum has been invited to
produce a website for the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
The site is being co-produced by the museum, along
with Ron Wakkary, founder of Stadiumweb.
This website will be online during the MoMA exhibit,
"The Museum as Muse: Artists Reflect," (March 14 to
June 1, 1999), and it may stay online for some time afterward.
The site will go online sometime near the end of February.
With permission from MoMA, a special area called
<A HREF="http://www.stadiumweb.com/artworks/">ARTWORKS</A>
is being developed, which will be open to all artists and art
students everywhere. All artists are invited to set up a page
for his or her own work.
These ARTWORKS pages will have an entirely separate identity
from McCollum's own area, and WILL therefore be unencumbered
by any references to McCollum himself or his artwork; that is,
the artists' pages will be accessible without going through his
area, should one desire to do so. In any case, the ARTWORKS pages
will be a part of MoMA's "Online Projects" as a whole. It is hoped that
many different types of artists will participate - including art
students of all kinds and sensibilities.
We are welcoming all artists!
INSTRUCTIONS FOR PUTTING UP YOUR WEB PAGE
Each submission is limited to one photo of one artwork, which
should be PRE-CROPPED TO FIT WITHIN A FIVE INCH BY FIVE INCH
SQUARE (127mm x 127mm, 300 x 300 pixels), at 72 lines per inch.
There will be areas on the page for the artist's name, the work’s title,
size, media, dimensions, etc., a brief statement (maximum: 500 words),
and ten hyperlinks to other URL's the artist might like to have linked
to his or her page. This information needs to be typed in by you into
the appropriate fields.
All photographs (.jpeg or .gif files, etc.) will need to be uploaded and
stored on each artist’s own server, which will then be accessed
by the MoMA site for display on each artist’s page. If you don't
know how to do this, check with your service provider (America
Online, Earthlink, Interport, AT&T WorldNet, Prodigy, Erols, etc).
To enter the name of your artwork and so-on, and your URL addresses,
press the SUBMIT AN ARTWORK button and go to the SUBMISSION page.
After you enter the necessary data, you BE SURE TO "PREVIEW" your
site to check for errors (we will not be able to edit your page for you
- and, unfortunately - once you "submit" your page, it CANNOT BE
CHANGED. So be careful!
Filling in all the fields are not mandatory, except for
your NAME, the TITLE and DATE of your artwork, and
your EMAIL ADDRESS. These fields MUST be filled in,
or the page will not appear on the MoMA site.
To enter your image into the "url of image" field, the EXACT
address (URL) of your photo will then need to be typed into
the "url of Image" field. This is very IMPORTANT. DO NOT enter
the address of an HTML page that has your image imbedded in it!!
An HTML page will NOT APPEAR as an image!! You should make
sure that you open up the actual image itself, and find the actual
specific URL for that specific image (the URL address of an IMAGE
will most likely have the suffix .GIF, .JPEG, or .JPG).
HTML pages should be typed into the "links" fields, along with
the TITLE you want to appear on the page. Without a TITLE,
your link will not appear on your page.
