Haven't heard anyone mention the Artrain.  They just spent a week in our
small town (Missouri Valley, Iowa) and it was a fantastic experience.  It
is an art museum in three refurbished train cars, an art workshop / gift
shop + a caboose.  Their most recent exhibition (they usually run three
years) are all loaned from the Smithsonian Museum.  They travel all over
the contigous 48 and been to 44 since 1973 when they started travelling on
the tracks.  They rely heavily on local volunteers - I had a wonderful time
the morning I spent volunteering.  I have no idea if they have a web site
or e-mail contact.  Here's the old fashioned way:
