Hi. I am new to this listserv and as a librarian-to-be, I have subscribed
not only for personal interest but to hopefully learn a little more about
museums in general. I do have a question sparked by my recent tour of the
archive/special collections facility at the university I work at. How do
museums catalogue their collections? Is it a similar system to archival
depositories, where each collection is given an accession number and then
each individual artifact is described or is there a protocol used only by
museums?
