our Spring offerings. Please note that our "Approaches to

"Managing Archaeological and Traditional Cultural Resources"

Approaches to the preservation and management of a range of First
Nations archaeological and cultural  resources are evolving in
response to significant changes in approaches to public values and
attitudes. In this course, you examine resource management concepts
as they apply to a range of archaeological sites, resources and
practices, with particular emphasis on:
        - the nature of archaeological and cultural resources including
sacred and burial sites, traditional use sites, culturally modified
trees and ethnological objects
        - impacts of changing values and attitudes on resource management
and land use decision-making
        - legislation which governs archaeological and heritage resources
and controls exploitation and preservation
        - legal, ethical, preservation, access, ownership, and repatriation
issues
        - approaches to the stewardship of First Nations' cultural
heritage resources
        - control of field investigations on aboriginal sites
        - inventory and mapping using GIS

Instructor: Bjorn Simonsen consults on the management of
archaeological and heritage resources
Dates: April 12 - 17
Please register by: March 12
Fee: $589 (credit or non-credit options, Canadian funds)
Travel: Victoria is easily accessible by air or ferry from both
Vancouver and Seattle
