Tara,

Utah State University (Logan, Utah) has an AAM accredited museum on its
campus, the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art (specializes in contemporary
ceramics, 20th c. painting - esp. regional and southern california painting
from 40-60s.

Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, Ohio) has a gallery, the Mather
Gallery, which does not have a permanent collection but does have rotating
exhibits from regional artists especially from Northern Ohio.

North Dakota State University (Fargo, ND) has a gallery with a permanent
collection (a hidden gem with works by Pearlstein, Warhol, Chicago, and
regional artists). Their rotating exhibits feature student and regional
artists.

Perhaps you should try contacting state museum associations for more
information? Good luck.
