A recently screened television documentary about the closed Wonthaggi State
Coal Mines in Victoria, Australia had some brief historical film footage of
a group of miners with a canary in a cage (the narration explained that the
miners were using the canaries when entering the mines after a fatal
explosion). The Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC) screened it but I
am not certain if they produced it.
