FYI: Below is information about upcoming technical assistance workshops
from the Department of Commerce's Telecommunications and Information
Infrastructure Assistance Program (TIIAP). Since 1994, TIIAP has
provided matching grants to consortia, which have included museums, to
bring the benefits of the Information Age to inaccessible rural areas
and underserved urban residents. For this highly competitive program,
TIIAP officials look for projects that use new technology to "solve a
problem" and that can serve as replicable models. TIIAP has $18 million
for FY 1999. According to TIIAP officials, new applications should be
available on TIIAP's Website http://www.ntia.doc.gov/ during the first
two weeks of January and likely will be due sometime in early March.

DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE
NATIONAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS INFORMATION ADMINISTRATION

TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION INFRASTRUCTURE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM,
1999 OUTREACH WORKSHOP REGISTRATION

The Telecommunications and Information Infrastructure Assistance Program
(TIIAP) will hold a series of free regional technical assistance
workshops to introduce the 1999 TIIAP grant round, and to discuss
funding priorities, application requirements, and lessons learned from
previous TIIAP grantees. These one-day workshops are a key opportunity
for interested parties to understand the TIIAP goals and application
process and meet representatives of other organizations interested in
the TIIAP program. The workshops also afford and opportunity to meet
TIIAP staff and TIIAP grantees, who will offer insights into the
application process and the post-grant experience.
