Assistant for Museum Consulting Firm

Informal Science, Inc., a museum and education consulting firm, requires an
assistant to work an average of 30 hours per week in a home-based office in
Chevy Chase, DC.

Duties include:

        Office management
        Maintenance of client/subscribers data
        Processing subscriptions and payments for publications and seminars
        Management and organization of databases, files, and library
Telephone contact with current and potential clients
        Schedule meetings related to multiple projects
Organize professional seminars
        Document and report preparation
        Mailings
        Telephone surveys and data gathering
        Obtaining and supervising occasional outside workers

Necessary Skills and Talents:

        Organization
        Dependability
        Flexibility
        Ability to work independently
        Well-developed computer skills, including database management programs
        Excellent telephone personality
        Dedication to the museum profession, informal learning mediums, and not-for-
profit organizations
        Sense of humor

Days and Hours: to be arranged (M-F, 9-5; average 30 hours a week)

Wages:  $20,000 annual salary; no benefits

Duties:  The assistant will be responsible for management of the home-based
office of a well-established museum consulting firm.  The firm has two
principals, a part-time bookkeeper, off-site computer programmers, and
periodic temporary workers.  The assistant will work alongside the firm's two
principals to ensure that the office runs smoothly, will maintain records and
resources, contact and respond to potential clients and subscribers, record
and update subscriptions, do some editorial and research work, send out
publications and mailings, and maintain phone logs.

The Firm: Informal Science, Inc. is a consulting firm which works with
museums, zoos, aquariums, funding agencies, and national education and
professional associations and societies.  We produce two publications for the
field--a semi-annual report of traveling exhibitions (also available on-line)
and the bimonthly Informal Science Review.  Based in Chevy Chase, DC, we have
