Director of Development
Culture and Heritage Commission of York County
York County, South Carolina

The Culture and Heritage Commission (CHC) is a growing cultural
institution organization that manages three museum program sites: Museum
of York County, Historic Brattonsville, and the Historical Center of
York County.  It operates on a $2.3 million budget and is actively
planning major capital and operating budget expansions in the next 3-5
years.  The Director of Development is responsible for fundraising for
the CHC and manages the CHC development department that is also the
staff of the Culture and Heritage Foundation.  She or he reports to the
Foundation board of Trustees and the Executive Director of the CHC and
will also work in close coordination with the CHC Marketing and Public
Relations Director and other CHC staff.  In addition, the Director of
Development will maintain a working liaison with all CHC collaborative
partners.

Requirements
Minimum Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree required:
Demonstration of continuing education in fund development is preferred.

Experience Requirements: Minimum of five years of successful and
broad-based fund development is preferred.  Previous administrative
experience in the arts, humanities, and/or sciences and capital
campaigns is preferred.  Outstanding organizational, motivational,
team-building, writing, and speaking skills are expected.  The Director
of Development will be required to have the ability to articulately deal
with individuals and groups in both business and social settings.
Experience with computer-based donor databases required.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
§ Responsible for all activities in the Foundation.
§ Develops, organizes, and executes approved fund raising programs
including
capital campaigns, individual and corporate gifts, special events,
planned giving, Foundation grants, bequests, annuities, and/or other
methods approved by the system Foundation board and individual system
entities.
§ Identifies sources of potential funding.
§ Participates with the CHC Executive Director and other staff in
planning matters that have implications for the fund raising needs for
the CHC and keeps the Foundation board's chairperson regularly and fully
informed of the current status and progress of approved fund raising
programs.
§ Oversees the daily activities of Foundation staff and volunteers and
plans, establishes, and carries out the programs, operational goals and
philosophies.
§ Prepares Foundation board members and other volunteers to solicit
gifts from identified sources as required and participates, when
appropriate, with board members and other volunteers with potential
givers according to the plan.
§ Conceives and develops all printed materials required to support the
fund raising programs in cooperation with the Director of Marketing and
Public Relations.
§ Plans and arranges for appropriate recognition of donors and other
significant contributors including providing an annual report to
stakeholders.
§ On behalf of the Foundation board, plans, establishes, and carries out
operational goals and philosophies; develops and implements new policies
and procedures as approved; and provides staff support and counsel to
the board in its responsibility for fund investment (when necessary) and
development and implementation of related policies and objectives.
§ Develops and maintains the operational budget of the Foundation.
§ Interviews, selects, and evaluates performance of support staff;
plans, assigns, and reviews work of staff; and instructs and advises
staff on methods and procedures.
§ Maintains professional affiliations and enhances personal growth and
development to keep abreast of latest trends in museum fund raising.

Job Environment
This is a fast-paced, high profile position which must meet the demands
of donors, system partners, general public and the Board of Directors.
Hours worked are as required to meet responsibilities.  The scope of
this position stretches beyond CHC into the corporate world, other CHC
partners, and communities served by CHC.

Salary
$30-$50k depending on experience and qualifications.
