UKIC Furniture Section Conference

MODERN MATERIALS - MODERN PROBLEMS

16-17 April 1999 at The Conservation Centre, NMGM, Liverpool.

The scope of the programme is to emphasise the development and
use of non-traditional materials, with an explanation of timber board
substitutes, adhesives coatings and finishes; their properties,
origins, manufacture, influence on design, use and degradation.
There will be investigations into what can be achieved in the way of
remedial or conservation treatments.

First day Friday 16 April.

Meet up at 10.30am at Conservation Centre, Liverpool.

The Conservation department of NMGM has kindly arranged visits
to their sites around Liverpool. This will include The Conservation
Centre studios and the Lady Lever Art Gallery. This day is optional.

The Conference, Saturday 17th April. starts at 9.00am and closes
at  5.00pm.

Chair and introduction by David Dewing, Director of The Geffrye
Museum.

problems of conservation of degraded foams.
Lesley Wilson, Freelance Textile Conservator.

designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
Shayne Lang, V&A Furniture Conservator.

Consolidants and Gap Fillers with an emphasis on Epoxy Resins.
Edward Ashley, Freelance Furniture Conservator.

"Early Frank Lloyd Wright Furniture. Treatment of Objects from the
Darwin Martin House."
Pamela Kirschener, Kress Conservation Fellow, New York State.
